What will the British election result mean for the UK and the world?

Jeremy Corbyn is narrowing Theresa May’s lead in the polls but May is still predicted to win the contest, albeit with a narrower margin of victory than previously predicted. At the moment the Conservatives are on around 45% and Labour on 38%.

If May wins there will be further austerity measures at home which will affect public services and lower paid workers in particular. Her foreign policy will closely align with that of the USA and her term will be dominated by taking Britain out of the European Union.

If Corbyn wins he will invest more in public services, tax the rich and help the poor. He will also maintain a distance from the United States on foreign policy and will be less hostile to countries such as Russia and Iran. There is also a possibility of a hung parliament where no one party has a majority in parliament and will have to do a coalition deal with another party to get into power.
