Thai professional football club Bangkok United, which is currently playing in the Thai League, has signed Iranian midfielder Mehrdad Pooladi for a fee of hundreds of thousands of dollars and on a one-year contract.

The 30-year-old Iranian recently finalized a deal with the Pathum Thani-based club. No information about the exact sum of the contract was immediately available.

Pooladi started his playing career in Paykan Football Club, which is sponsored by Iran's main automobile manufacturer Iran Khodro. He moved to Iranian professional football club Esteghlal Tehran in August 2007.

He left Esteghlal two years after joining the team. The Iranian midfielder then played in Tractor Sazi Tabriz, Sanat Mes Kerman and Persepolis football clubs.

Pooladi officially joined coach Miguel Ángel Lotina's Qatari side al-Shahania with a two-year contract after the Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran (FFIRI) ruled that he is a free agent due to conscription issues.

He renewed his contract with al-Shahania for another two-season term until the end of the 2017–18 Qatar Stars League

Pooladi played in Iran men's national football team, domestically known as Team Melli, during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

FIFA named him as the second best-ranked player in first week of the tournament behind German professional footballer Thomas Müller, after receiving 9.7 points in the opening match against Nigeria.

Pooladi also exhibited spirited performances in the next matches against Argentina and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He was called into Team Melli’s 2015 AFC Asian Cup roster on December 30, 2014 by Carlos Queiroz.

Pooladi received a controversial red card in the quarter-final match of the quadrennial international football tournament by Australian referee Ben Williams on January 23, 2015.
