Liaquat Ali Khan, lecturer at Washburn University, believes the new arms deal between Washington and Riyadh is a “disaster” for the Middle East which would only further destabilize the region, adding that it is a “desperate attempt” to create more jobs in the United States.

“So I think as far as the deal is concerned, even though there is some opposition in the Senate against this deal, it will go through and the reason is that the United States has become heavily dependent on its military industrial complex,” Ali Khan told Press TV in an interview on Thursday.

“So hundreds of hundreds of jobs are funded on this industry and therefore they need wars and they need countries who would buy the equipment and defense materials,” he added.

US President Donald Trump signed the $110 billion deal during the first leg of his maiden overseas trip in Saudi Arabia over the weekend.
