Es'haq Jahangiri quits presidential race

Iranian presidential candidate Es'haq Jahangiri has quit the race. During a campaign rally in the city of Shiraz, Jahangiri called on his supporters to vote for Hassan Rouhani on Friday. The first vice-president thanked all the people who had backed him during his campaign trail. Earlier on Monday, Jahangiri’s principlist rival Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf dropped out of the election in favor of Ebrahim Raeisi. Now Jahangiri’s withdrawal from the race brings to four the total number of candidates.

Raeisi slams Rouhani's performance

Iranian presidential candidate Ebrahim Raeisi has slammed President Rouhani and his administration for failing to solve economic woes. He was speaking at a campaign rally to thousands of his supporters in Tehran.

Raeisi says the government’s wrong policies in the past four years have resulted in an increase in social gap. He said 17,000 businesses have been closed during the 11th administration. The candidate also accused the government of not wanting to solve the unemployment problem. He reiterated his campaign pledge to create one million jobs annually. Raeisi was speaking to thousands of his supporters in the capital Tehran accompanied by former candidate Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf. Qalibaf endorsed his rival Raeisi to end what he calls a government of four percenters. He called for an end to the current economic woes and asked his supporters to vote for Raeisi.

Rouhani promises to address environmental issues

Iran's incumbent President Hassan Rouhani has held a campaign rally in Ahvaz where he pledged to address the challenges facing the city including its environmental issues.

if re-elected president, Rouhani pledged to cooperate with neighboring countries to solve the problem of dust particles in Khuzestan Province. Rouhani assured his supporters that his administration would not allow the construction of industrial zones that harm the environment. The incumbent president also vowed to tackle unemployment in the oil-rich province. Rouhani said Iran is at a critical juncture highlighting the importance of national unity. He urged his supporters in Ahvaz to back him during Friday’s vote. Earlier in the day, Rouhani attended a rally in the city of Zanjan where he defended his administration’s measures particularly in the agriculture sector.

Rouhani told his supporters that his administration’s measures have put Iran on the path of prosperity. The incumbent president sharply criticized the policies of the previous administration, blaming it for various crises in Iran. He highlighted the importance of participation in Friday’s vote and called his supporters in Zanjan to turn out at polling stations en masse. Rouhani is due to hold a rally in the city of Ahvaz later today.

Aqa-Mirsalim criticizes govt. handling of nuclear deal

Presidential hopeful Mostafa Aqa-Mirsalim has joined his supporters in the city of Zanjan. During the event, he criticized the government's handling of the nuclear deal. Mir salim says the sanctions are still in place despite the agreement.

Aqa-Mirsalim, however, said the deal proved to the international community that Iran’s nuclear program is only for peaceful purposes. He complained that the text of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action is so complicated and vague. The candidate stressed the next president must restore the rights of the Iranian nation stipulated in the agreement.
