Macron picks Edouard Philippe as French prime minister

On Emmanuel Macron’s first day in office, the new French president appointed a young and relatively unknown conservative as his Prime Minister. Edouard Philippe will direct the implementation of Macron’s domestic agenda, but Philippe’s job won’t be truly secure until after the June legislative elections.
