Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has extended his congratulations to Moon Jae-in for winning South Korea’s presidential election.

In a message on Saturday, Rouhani expressed hope that Tehran and Seoul would witness further expansion of relations during Moon’s tenure.

The Iranian president also wished his South Korean counterpart and nation success and prosperity.

Moon was sworn in as president of South Korea on Wednesday, a day after he was declared the winner of the election.

South Korea’s election body said that Moon had gathered 41 percent of the votes.
