Iran taekwondo lineup for Islamic Solidarity Games announced

The Islamic Republic of Iran Taekwondo Federation (IRITF) has announced the final roster for the forthcoming 4th edition of Islamic Solidarity Games, which are due to be held in the Azerbaijani capital city of Baku next month.

The eight Iranian practitioners, who will be with the team for the multinational and multi-sport event, include Mehdi Es'haqi in the minus 54-kilogram weight category, and Sadeq Dehqani in the minus 58-kilogram section.

Mehdi Yousefi will compete in the minus 63-kilogram weight class, while Seyed Hossein Ehsani will be in action in the minus 68-kilogram category.

Seyed Ahmad Khosrofar will vie for top honors in the minus 74-kilogram weight, and Alireza Darvishpour will take on his opponents in the minus 80-kilogram.

Ahmad Mohammadi will fight against rivals in the minus 87-kilogram, while Hossein Ghorbanzadeh will represent the Islamic Republic of Iran in the over 87-kilogram weight division.

The Iranian men’s national taekwondo team will be led by Fariborz Askari as the head coach.

Ali Mohammad Bes’haq and Mehdi Ahmadi will assist Askari during the upcoming event.

The 4th edition of Islamic Solidarity Games is scheduled to open in Baku, Azerbaijan, on May 12 and will run through May 22, 2017.

A total of 24 disciplines from 20 sports will be contested in the Games.

The Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF) is responsible for the direction and control of the tournament.

The President of the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran (NOCIRI), Shahrokh Shahnazi, has said the committee will dispatch a 300-strong sports delegation to the 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games.

He added that the Iranian sportsmen and sportswomen will vie for top honors in 16 sports.

Iranian female sports shooter Mahlagha Jambozorg has been named as the flag-bearer of the Iranian sports delegation at the opening ceremony of the Games.
