A Dutch university student has developed a virtual reality parachute simulator that enables people to enjoy the buzz of an extreme sport without the fear of a real accident.

The VR parachute lifts you up and when you’re safely strapped in, you are literally launched out of the plane into free-fall.

Once the parachute opens, you win points by using the cords to steer through a series of hoops before coming down to land.

But whatever your score, at least you can rely on a soft landing. The developer hopes it can be marketed for a range of applications, from a fun experience for anyone to a serious training tool.
