US-Russia ties

Vladimir Putin (R) and Donald Trump (L).

These are some of the headlines we are tracking for you in this episode of On the News Line:

US-Russia shoot to restore ties, if...
Relations between the US and Russia have been described as being at all-time low frequently since Washington launched a missile strike on Syria last month. But latest reports suggest the 2 sides are discussing ways of mending their ties. One key issue in their discussions is said to be Syria over which the 2 have thus far been widely divided. The US has told Russia to choose between siding with the Syrian government and normalization of ties with America. Moscow has repeatedly refused such offers from the west regarding Damascus. But Some observers have said Russia will  eventually part ways with the Syrian government.

Saudi's attempt to legitimize war on Yemen
Since the onset of Saudi Arabia’s onslaught against Yemen in March 2015, the kingdom has spared no effort to rally the support of its allies to join the deadly aggression. Nevertheless, only several countries including the UAE and Qatar joined the kingdom’s military campaign. Pakistan was called on by Saudi Arabia to join the coalition, but its parliament voted unanimously to maintain neutrality. Later in December, Saudi defense minister and deputy crown prince Mohammed bin Salman announced the formation of what he called Islamic military alliance against terror. Dozens of countries including Pakistan are among the member states. Islamabad’s move, however, caused concerns among some officials who feared it might impact the country’s neutrality in the Saudi war on Yemen.

US wants Assange
For nearly 6 years now, Assange has remained a prisoner of his own will at the Ecuadorian Embassy, costing the British taxpayer 11.1 Million pounds according to the Metropolitan Police Service, who after 40 months of 24 hour guard outside the doors, withdrew the service. With the US seething at the leaks, could it be that they are embarrassed at the exposure of files showing the truth behind the CIA's illegal activities, such as torture, kidnapping, assassinations and regime change? After all, the US claims it is a democratic power, so could such revelations contradict this ideology?
