The king of Clay didn’t have to work hard for the victory, as he saw off the 20-year-old German with 2 bread-sticks in just 68 minutes to book his place in the quarters.
The defending champion is chasing a 10th title at the tournament, and will next face Diego Schwartzman of Argentina.
Earlier in the day, David Goffin of Belgium recorded his 6th victory in 9 meetings against Austrian Dominic Thiem, after beating him 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 in 2 hours and 15 minutes.
