S Korea marks International Mine Awareness Day

South Korea's borders near North Korea contain an estimated 500,000 US landmines and those laid by others.

South Korea has marked International Mine Awareness Day which is observed every year with an aim of urging UN member states to boost their mine-action capacities. The occasion was particularly important for South Koreans as the country’s borders near North Korea contain an estimated 500,000 US landmines and those laid by others.
