Roger Federer has reached his second consecutive ATP World Tour Masters 1000 quarterfinals after emerging victorious from a back-and-forth contest against Roberto Bautista Agut in the 4th round of the Miami Open.
The 18-time Grand Slam champion survived a tough challenge from the Spaniard in the round of 16 and needed almost 2 hours to close out the victory.
The Swiss maestro struck a forehand pass to win the first-set tie-break and went on to break his opponent in the opening game of the second set.
However, Bautista Agut didn’t allow Federer to pull away. The Spaniard broke right back and held on to take the set into another tiebreak where Federer’s experience proved the difference once again as he sealed his place in the quarters where he will face Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic.
