Iran to host first International Tehran Marathon in April

The Islamic Republic of Iran Athletics Federation is going to host the first edition of International Tehran Marathon on April 7, 2017.

The Islamic Republic of Iran Athletics Federation (IRIAF) is going to host the first edition of International Tehran Marathon early next month, with dozens of competitors from different countries having already expressed their readiness to participate in the event.

The tournament, scheduled to be held on April 7 under the motto “I Run Iran”, will feature contenders in 10K, half marathon and full marathon road running competitions.

The IRIAF announced that the sports event will start from Azadi Sport Complex in western Tehran, along Karaj Special Road, past Azadi and Enghelab squares and backward.

The champion of the 10K run, where participants run over a distance of ten kilometers (6.2 miles), will  be awarded the $1,000 cash prize. The runner-up will be paid $700, while the third-finisher will earn $500.

The title winner of the half marathon event will get $1,500, while the vice champion of the 21.0975-kilometer-long (13.1094-mile-long) contest will receive $1,000. The third person on podium will collect $500.

In the marathon race with an official distance of 42.195 kilometers (26.219 miles), the victor will be awarded $3,000. The second to sixth finishers will pocket $2,500, $2,000, $1,500, $1,000 and $500 respectively.
