Butterfly exhibition opens in Rome

Hundreds of live butterflies have gone on display in a Rome-based exhibition which is nothing less than a personification of heaven.

The House of Butterflies hosts over 400 tropical butterflies from 30 different species inside a garden. The greenhouse boasts enough temperature and humidity to replicate a natural environment for the butterflies.

People can observe these rare beauties in different stages of their life cycle. But they’re not allowed to touch the delicate beings to avoid unintentional harm. Of course some luckier visitors get the chance of their lifetime when the butterflies lay over their heads to suck nutrients. But apart from its aesthetics, the exhibit also attempts to raise awareness about the importance of butterflies for a healthy environment.

The exhibit also features ants, beetles and other insects. The show will continue until June the 4th.
