The El Salvador National Zoo has presented two rare tortoises recently added to their guest animals.

Both reptiles are 15-year-old male African spurred tortoises that have been donated to the zoo by Salvadoran Arauca breeding farm.

The animals’ age and size had made them unsuitable subjects for reproduction, prompting the breeding farm to keep them away from the rest of the group.

Despite their old age, the tortoises are in good health and have proven to be popular during their debut appearance.

The African spurred tortoise is classified as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, making the duo a valuable addition to the zoo.
