US-South Korea drills increase regional tension

The annual joint US-South Korean military exercises have long been described as the main cause of tensions on the Korean Peninsula. Some South Koreans are also demanding the suspension of what they call provocative drills. Despite the North Korea warning that it would respond mercilessly if its sovereignty is violated, the American aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson has now joined the drills.
