Seven loggerhead sea turtles were released back into the Adriatic Sea by coastguards and members of a study center off the seashore of Italian city of Pescara.

The center intervenes to rescue injured sea turtles in the area, nursing them back to health before releasing them again.

Loggerhead sea turtles are considered an endangered species and are protected by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources.

Each year some 150,000 sea turtles get caught in fishing gear in the Mediterranean, causing over 40,000 deaths.
