Manchester United have claimed the 2017 EFL Cup, courtesy of a double from Zlatan Ibrahimovic that saw his side secure a 3-2 victory over Southampton at Wembley Stadium.

The Red Devils took the lead against the run of play 19 minutes into the first half after Ibrahimovic curled a free kick into the corner before Jesse Lingard sent the ball into the bottom corner from 16 yards in the 38th minute.

Southampton however refused to give up and clawed back with their marksman Manolo Gabbiadini scoring either side of the break to tie the game at 2-2.

The 35-year-old Swede however was on target for both the winner and his second of the night in the closing stages with a powerful header which saw Jose Mourinho become the first Man United manager to win a major trophy in his debut season.
