Rui Costa wins stage three of the 2017 Abu Dhabi Tour.

Portugal's Rui Costa has outperformed some of the biggest Grand Tour stars to win Stage 3 of the Abu Dhabi Tour, and has also moved to the top of the overall standings.

The Saturday stage took the riders on an 11-kilometer route where Costa finished first with a time of 4 hours, 34 minutes and 8 seconds, with Russia’s Ilnur Zakarin in second and Dutchman Tom Dumoulin back in third.

It was expected that the victory could come from the likes of Nairo Quintana, Alberto Contador and Vincenzo Nibali. But, they all under-estimated Costa and failed to achieve good results. Costa now leads the race, four seconds ahead of Zakarin with just one, flat stage to go.
