It's a word that many are not familiar with, whether it's in the US or UK. They are called lobbyists, but what are they exactly? Is there a relationship between lobbyists and dark money? The Guardian’s acclaimed writer George Monbiot has exposed some of these facts, examining the secret world of business lobbyists, ones that have long influenced US politics. This program dissects his views, looks at the abuse of power from the senators on both sides of the Atlantic, and looks at how these legislations impact the lives of ordinary people.

A secretive network of business lobbyists has long held sway in US politics. Now their allies in the UK government are planning a Brexit that plays into their hands. The Guardian’s acclaimed writer George Monbiot exposes some of these facts, examining the secret world of business lobbyists, ones that have long influenced US politics. But even more mind boggling: these US lobbyists were planning to influence their contacts in the UK to have a Brexit that would fulfill their business interests.

Some of the dark money and their donors have been at this game for a while. Take the case of tobacco  companies who act as a source on health, or oil companies who advocate climate change. The irony of it all, but very calculated, for at the end, their product was peddled even more. Here's one case: the Massive lobbying power of tobacco companies diluted European regulation of cigarettes. It cited Phillip Morris as an example, that - hired 161 lobbyists, to have incurred a  £1.25m in expenses alone, to either amend or delay a piece of legislation introduced in April 2014.

The power mongers created a network of think-tanks, funded by ‘Dark Money’, and were a useful source of output for the elite rich to provide academic, political and commercial sway in favor of their interests, and aimed at the very Governments billing, and implementing these laws. The think-tanks were not only able to promote the ideologies of the cooperation’s they represented, but became a very powerful tool as a corporate lobbyist, working on behalf of those that funded them.
