A charity in South Africa is offering a new way to mothers unable to look after their newborn children.

The ‘Door of Hope’ charity aims to save abandoned babies. A mother could place her baby by the door of the charity, then high pitched alarm rings out and caretakers find out there is a baby outside.

The center has saved over 1,500 abandoned infants since its foundation. Some of them will be adopted; others will be left to grow up in South Africa's public welfare system.
