Canada hosts ice dragon boat contest

Racers battle slushy conditions at Canada's 1st ice dragon boating festival.

The Canadian capital has hosted an ice dragon boat contest to celebrate the country’s 150th anniversary. It is the first event of its kind hosted in North America.

The race is promoted by both Canada and China where dragon boat race initiated. Sixty teams, mainly from the US and Canada, participated in the race. Over 100,000 visitors gathered to watch the competition.

The ice race includes boat glides along a frozen lake surface while keeping the skill and original technique. The game was invented for the residents of cold regions so they could enjoy dragon boat race during the winter snap.
