Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich have recorded their 16th home victory in the UEFA Champions League by demolishing Arsenal 5-1 at the Allianz Arena.

Eight minutes into the game, the Bavarians got themselves in front as Arjen Robben fired a rocket shot into the top corner of the net to give the home crowd something to cheer about.

The Gunners were then awarded a penalty in the 30th minute and Alexis Sanchez failed to convert his first attempt, but did manage to collect possession for the third time and took an assured touch before firing a lovely half-volley into the bottom left corner.

The Bavarians, however, started the second half in a different mood. Robert Lewandowski headed home before Thiago Alcantara scored twice. Late in the match, substitute Thomas Muller added the fifth, earning the hosts a commanding lead going into the second leg at the Emirates Stadium next month.
