The New York Islanders have slumped to a 7-1 thrashing defeat at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the NHL.

The hosts established a three goal cushion at the Air Canada Center with first period goals from Josh Leivo, Nazem Kadri and one in the second through William Nylander before the Islanders cut the deficit with a 26th minute penalty.

Toronto showed no signs of letting up and found the back of the net four more times to round off a 7-1 stunning win over their visitors. Auston Matthews scored a brace for the winners to increase his rookie total to 27 goals.
