A police officer in Illinois recorded the meteor's descent on the dash camera of his patrol car.

A police car camera in the US state of Illinois has captured a meteor that lit up the sky.

The police car captured the fireball streaking through the night. The American Meteor Society reported over 350 sightings of the fireball in Illinois and Wisconsin.

The Weather Service Office says the meteor was accompanied by a sonic boom that shook houses in the area.

The US Space Agency, NASA, says a meteor about the size of a car enters the Earth’s atmosphere annually, creating an impressive fireball that burns up before reaching the ground.
