One of the world's largest ice sculpture shows and contests is underway in Japan, featuring some 200 artworks.

The 68th edition of Sapporo Snow Festival opened Monday at Japan's Odori Park on Hokkaido Island to join other event sites after a week.

The statues are usually themed on a noteworthy event, person or landmark from the passed year. Some of this year’s sculptures were of figures like Donald Trump and Japanese comedian Piko Taro while others celebrated movies such as Star Wars and paid tribute to religious sites under construction.

Apart from magical sculptures, the winter wonderland also welcomes visitors with a variety of regional foods to snacks.

The festival dates back to 1950 when a number of local high-schoolers built snow statues at the park. It will run until February 12 at the park as well as other sites.
