The whole world is celebrating the Lunar New Year with parades and acrobatic acts. But a north China province has taken the festivities to the extreme with a performance featuring molten iron!

Local folk artists from Hebei Province in north China captivated the audience with a breath-taking display of art dubbed Dashuhua.

With more than 5 centuries of history, the tradition includes throwing over molten iron onto a cold brick wall to create a firework-like display.

In front of the eyes of an awed audience, glowing thousand-degree streams ushered in the New Year with a shower of sparks.

The annual event has been listed by UNESCO as one of China's great instances of intangible cultural heritage for the Lunar New Year.
