The Netherlands has celebrated the national tulip day. The event marks the official start of the tulip season in the country.

The annual celebration has attracted over 100,000 visitors. This year, a huge temporary garden containing 200-thousand tulips has been installed in Amsterdam.

Dutch tulip growers organized the event and people can pick the flowers for free. The occasion was launched in 2012 to promote tulips to locals and visitors alike.

Tulips are the unofficial flower of the Netherlands. Some one-point-seven billion Dutch tulips are expected to bring spring into homes around the world.
