Socially Aware Robot Assistant displayed at WEF

An American university has unveiled a robotic assistant that claims social awareness and a new level of interaction with people.

The Socially Aware Robot Assistant, or SARA, was prominently displayed at the World Economic Forum. Sara was created by developers from Carnegie Mellon University. She can interact with people through capturing facial expressions such as nods, frowns, and smiles on top of speech and intonation recognition.

The robot’s ability to dig deeper than words reportedly guarantees a thorough understanding of a person’s social intention. Throughout the forum, participants and developers unanimously expressed their admiration of Sara, expressing that she is one of the examples of the bright future of artificial intelligence.

Before its full-on display, Sara was previously exhibited at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting of the New Champions in 2016, held at China’s Tianjin metropolis.
