Juuso the bear makes artistic debut at Finnish gallery

Accompanied by two keepers, the obedient animal was hard at work, using his whole body as a paint brush.

A Finnish art gallery has opened an exhibition featuring the paintings of Juuso the bear.

The exhibition, held at Helsinki’s Rupla gallery, showcases artworks of a 17-year-old brown bear named Juuso that uses his body, especially his paws as paintbrushes. The show has 11 pieces of Juuso’s original work and some prints that are priced from 50 to over 4,000 euros.

The painter bear has been living at Kuusamo animal center in northern Finland ever since he was orphaned as a cub. His artistic bent was discovered when his keepers found him playing with paint while redoing some of the facilities at the center.

Juuso’s artistic career soon began to excel as he gained popularity among art enthusiasts who expressed their wish to see his works in person.
