Director  of the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) James Comey has claimed Russian hackers managed to hack some Republican groups and campaigns. To retaliate the alleged hackings, a bipartisan group of US senators has introduced a legislation to impose new sanctions on Russia. Meanwhile, US President-elect Donald Trump has rejected the allegation that Russia hacked Democratic offices to help him win the November election.

Stephen Lendman, an author and journalist from Chicago, said that the administration of President Barack Obama, Congress and intelligence agencies are trying to delegitimize the president-elect to stop better relations between Russia and the United States.

The American establishment is trying to “delegitimize Trump to prevent any normalization of US-Russian relations,” Lendman told Press TV’s Top 5 on Wednesday.

Hawkish statements by the Obama administration, intelligence agencies and congressional members about alleged Russian hacking is a “lie” to stop Trump in his bid for amending relationship with Russia, he stated.

“America wants to continue adversarial relations with Russia and wants Trump doing nothing to change longstanding policy that literally goes back a hundred years to the Russian 1917 Revolution,” the analyst noted.

According to Lendman, “There is a possibility, [the US] can end up having a confrontation with Russia, initiated by Washington.”

The journalist also ruled out the speculation that Russia was behind the alleged hacking of US presidential election campaigns, noting that democratic insiders who were angry “over the fact that Hillary [Clinton] stole the nomination from Bernie Sanders,” revealed some information about the Democratic candidate.

Recently, outgoing President Obama ordered a series of economic sanctions against Russia, as well as the expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats over the cyber-attacks.

Russia has repeatedly denied any involvement in cyber attacks.
