Russian artist marks New Year with giant manure rooster

A giant 3.5 meter dung statue of a rooster is gracing the street of the remote Siberian village.

A sculptor in Russia has marked the new Zodiac year by fashioning a giant rooster.

Artist Mikhail Bopposov, a resident of Russia’s Sakha Republic, has built the 3.5 meter tall rooster out of frozen manure as part of an annual tradition of memorializing the year’s Chinese zodiac symbol in dung.

The 56-year old artist, who is also a farmer, had earlier made statues of other Chinese New Year symbols including one of a monkey and a goat out of waste. The sculpture is expected to melt with spring’s first warm rays of sunshine.
