While the Christmas season is being wrapped up in most communities, Russia has held a unique competition to mark Orthodox Christmas.

The Church of All Saints in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg has commemorated Orthodox Christmas with an ice sculpture competition.

The ceremony was attended by hundreds of locals, tourists and elite attendants including the Patriarch of Moscow.

Visitors joined the celebration while admiring the works of art displayed on rows of platforms that stood above the snow-covered ground.

The winner of the sculpting contest was a depiction of baby Christ and angels singing about his birth. The ceremony concluded with the bishop handing certificates to all the participants.
