Millions in France celebrate Epiphany with traditional cakes

The Galette des Rois (King's Cake)

Cake lovers in France are celebrating the last of the Christmas holidays with flaky pastry cakes while hoping to come upon tiny prizes hidden inside.

The French traditional cakes called "Galette des Rois" (Pancake of the Kings) are a delicious way for revelers to celebrate Epiphany, a Christian holiday that celebrates the baptism of Jesus Christ.

Around 30 million of the flaky almond-based cakes are expected to be consumed throughout January this year. This is while on top of the delightful flavor, some who are luckier may find a hidden figurine, while biting on the soft texture of the galette.
