Dutch researchers invent laser ink-free printer

Inkless is the result of a graduation project by Venkatesh Chandrasekar at TU Delft. The company is part of the Yes!Delft business incubator.

Researchers in the Netherlands are working on producing a printer that doesn’t need consumables such as toner or ink.

Former students of the technical university in Delft have developed a method of black laser printing tech that works on any plain paper without needing ink.

The developers who have been working for 2 years say their final products will be in stores in a matter of years. The printer uses a technique called carbonization which includes an infra-red beam passing through special lenses while burning papers and printing black carbon dots.

But turning paper carbonization into a printing dot has been a challenging task as it requires an optimal balance between the laser beam intensity and the type and structure of lances.

The developers hope that the laser ink-less printer will provide an attractive solution for leading printing manufacturers and big printing industries.
