Syrian government forces have killed dozens of Daesh terrorists during operations carried out in Syria’s Homs and Dayr al-Zawr provinces.

According to military sources on Sunday, a large number of terrorists were killed as army units targeted Daesh positions and supply routes throughout the western province of Homs.

The sources noted that a number of armored troop carriers and armed cars plus a bulldozer used by the terrorists were destroyed during the raids.

Several Daeshis were also killed during operations against terrorist-held locations in the eastern province of Dayr al-Zawr.

Russia: Militants violating ceasefire

A nationwide ceasefire deal between militants and the Syrian government, backed by Russia and Turkey, came into force on Friday. Daesh and the Jabhat Fateh al-Sham are not part of the truce.

Russia says anti-government militants have violated the ceasefire numerous times since it came into effect.

The Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria recorded 21 instances of militant mortar attacks against government positions.

Meanwhile, government forces are pushing forward with their operations to reach the main water source of the capital Damascus which was taken by the terrorists.

On Thursday, the United Nations warned that four million people in the Syrian capital city had been deprived of safe drinking water supplies for over a week after springs outside the city were deliberately contaminated by militants.

Water supplies from the Wadi Barada and Ain al-Fija springs to the northwest of Damascus, which served 70 percent of the population in the city, were cut after water facilities were deliberately targeted and damaged, the UN announced in a statement.

Daesh claims Tartus bomb attack

Earlier on Sunday, two security guards were killed and several civilians were injured when two bombers set off their explosives after being challenged by security forces in Tartus, the capital of a western province with the same name.

Several hours after the blast, Daesh posted a statement online claiming the attack without providing further details.

The city, which hosts a Russian naval base, has remained mostly unaffected by the 2011-present militancy, which has killed hundreds of thousands and displaced millions more.

Since March 2011, Syria has been gripped by militancy it blames on some Western states and their regional allies. The Takfiri terrorists operating in the Arab country have suffered major setbacks over the past few months as the army has managed to liberate a number of areas from their grip.
