Spain’s Rafael Nadal has retained his Mubadala World Tennis Championship title after outclassing David Goffin in straight sets at the International Tennis Center.
The left-handed 14-time grand slam winner, previously had his 2016 campaign shattered by a wrist injury.
That forced him out of Roland Garros after the second round and saw him miss Wimbledon.
But he looked as though he was in very good shape throughout this contest.
He beat Tomas Berdych in the quarter-final and Milos Raonic in the semi-finals to set up a final showdown with Goffin.
And on Saturday the king of clay won both sets 6-4, 7-5 against his Belgian rival to win the title for the 4th time and also start the new year in style.
