A Chinese designer has tried to 'shoo' his country’s smog problem away with an innovative project.

Wang Zhijun has designed anti-smog masks out of a pair of limited edition sneakers. Zhijun says he tore up the coveted sneaker to earn a reaction about his country’s suffocating state rather than money.

But a 5,000 bid for the surgical-style mask on an online retailer, has recently handed him both. Wang started turning designer masks to facial masks in 2014 and has produced around 20 pieces so far.

He loves running and is an avid sneaker collector. He started the project ever since he felt the smog was disturbing his running habit. The designer has recently received a lot of commercial attention but he wants to carry on with his passion project.
