Aleppo liberation yet another defeat for US, its allies: Senior Iranian MP

The chairman of the Iranian Parliament's Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, Alaeddin Boroujerdi

A senior Iranian lawmaker says the liberation of the strategic Syrian city of Aleppo from the foreign-backed militants is another defeat for the United States and its allies.

“The victory of Aleppo was a very important event. In fact, the US and its allies both in Europe and the [Middle East] region faced a defeat once again,” the chairman of the Iranian Parliament's Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, told IRNA on Saturday.

He added that everybody in the world now admits that it is wrong to think that one can have the final say if he has money, weapons and force as the nations’ wills are more powerful than these factors.

Despite being under strict economic sanctions for years, Syria managed to achieve such a big victory in Aleppo through unity between the nation, government and army, Boroujerdi said.

The Iranian legislator noted that Takfiri terrorism was a deviant movement in the Muslim world, which was created by the US, major powers and their regional allies.

Aleppo, Syria’s second-largest city, was fully liberated this week, less than a month after the Syrian army started to drive foreign-backed militants out of their stronghold in the eastern side of the strategic city.

Russian Defense Ministry's Center for Reconciliation in Syria said in a statement on Friday that the Syrian military had wrested full control of eastern Aleppo, scoring a major victory against terrorists in the strategic northwestern city.

It further noted that more than 9,500 people, including over 4,500 militants and 337 wounded, had been taken out of eastern Aleppo.
