The Court of Arbitration for Sport has elected female Iranian lawyer Parand Azizi as a new member of the international quasi-judicial body to settle disputes related to athletes and tournaments.

“More than 400 professional lawyers from around the world are members of the Court of Arbitration for Sport. I was admitted to the court as its 401st member,” Azizi said on Wednesday noon.

She added, “Disputes are adjudicated in the court as a notable judicial body. They are settled through different methods and on the basis of rulings issued. Restoration of athletes’ rights is a technical issue rather than a judicial one. Any athlete can hire a Court of Arbitration for Sport lawyer, and seek redress of their rights.”

The National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran had initially shortlisted Azizi for a role in the court.

Azizi holds a doctorate degree in sports law from Malaysia, and has carried out numerous research projects on sports law in Islam.

She has studied Islamic law at the University of Cologne in Germany, and published a number of informative articles on this topic.

Aziz has also offered consultation to Iran's National Elites Foundation, whose main purpose is to recognize, organize and support the country's elite national talents, and has been in charge of the disciplinary committees at the Equestrian Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Iran's Golf Federation.
