Arsenal have missed the chance to go to the top of the English Premier League after suffering a shocking 2-1 defeat at the hands of Everton at Goodison Park.

The Gunners, who were seeking to reclaim the top spot from leaders Chelsea, took an early lead on Tuesday when a free-kick by Alexis Sanchez deflected in off Ashley Williams in the 20th minute.

But the Toffees drew level a minute before the break through Seamus Coleman who scored with a cool header, making it 1-all.

Everton, who were encouraged by the home fans, upped the pressure after restart and went ahead for the first time in the match when Ashley Williams powered home a late header to complete the turnaround.

The Blues, however, finished the game with 10 men after home captain Phil Jagielka was sent off in the dying minutes for a second booking. It was the north Londoners second defeat in the Premier League this season and now gives Chelsea the chance to move six points clear of them when they face Sunderland on Wednesday.
