Russia-friendly CEO may become Trump’s secy of state: Report

US President-elect Donald Trump is considering the Russia-friendly CEO of ExxonMobil, Rex Tillerson, for the secretary of state in his administration, a report says.

The Saturday report by the NBC was not refuted in a tweet by Trump transition spokesman Jason Miller, who said there would be no announcement regarding the key position until at least next week.

In 2011, the chairman and CEO of US oil and gas corporation negotiated a $500 billion energy partnership with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

A year later, he was given the Russian Order of Friendship, one of the highest awards Moscow gives to non-Russians.

John Bolton, the former American ambassador to the UN, is reportedly being considered as Tillerson’s deputy.

The choice has already infuriated environmentalist groups, including Greenpeace.

"In this position, Tillerson will try his hardest to silence global initiatives and the right of state attorney generals to hold fossil fuel companies legally accountable for climate change. We will not silenced, and we will not allow this cabinet of billionaires to steamroll the people,” said Cassady Craighill, a spokeswoman for the group. "If the U.S. Senate has any interest is protecting science, public dissent and the future of the humane race, they should not confirm Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State. If climate change denial is going to the default position of the Trump White House, then relentless resistance will be the default position of the American people.”
