More than 100 years after the birth of cinema, some of the early motion pictures are being restored at a highly specialized laboratory in northern Italy.
The 'New Found Image' lab in Bologna carefully enhances every frame of old films. The laboratory offers a restoration and conservation service, so all the restorers must have a deep knowledge of motion picture history and a passion for restoration techniques.
Some of the works done in the lab include old fashioned film handling techniques; 4k to 6k scanning, color grading and often a final print process on a new hi tech film for screening.
The lab authorities say all the information that has been gathered about the movies or the authors are assessed to help reconstruct a copy closest to the original project
