The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) has awarded the 2016 Copa Sudamericana to Brazilian club Chapecoense after most of the team died in a plane crash in Colombia last week.

71 people, including 19 players, lost their lives in the crash on the 28th of November while traveling to Medellin for the final against Colombian side Atletico Nacional.

Only 6 people survived the crash, among them 3 players of the Brazilian club. To honor the victims of the tragic accident, Nacional asked for the trophy to be awarded to Chapecoense who will be given 2,000,000 dollars in prize money.
