The special traffic lights have been installed at two stations in German city of Cologne.

Pedestrian use of smartphones is common nowadays. A city in Germany has offered a solution to enhance the security of distracted phone users.

The city of Cologne has decided to install traffic lights on the pavements to provide safety for pedestrians. The new kind of traffic lights can be found at the intersections where streetcars pass by.

The local residents say they are more effective than those traditional traffic lights. The lights look similar to cat’s eye road markers, but are flat on the ground and flash red when a vehicle is approaching. The lights are visible from a distance and they might also come in handy for distracted bicyclists.
