A multidisciplinary festival featuring artists, puppets and outdoor performances has kicked off in Myanmar.

The festival called Mingalabar Arts has opened in Dala township, a suburb of Myanmar’s commercial capital Yangon.

The 3-day event is organized by a French institute in collaboration with the region’s government to celebrate 55 years of cultural relations between the 2 countries. Following the parade of 2 giant wood puppets, more than a hundred artists from both nations will present live shows at key locations of the city.

The festival also initiates an artistic makeover of the city’s flyover. The celebrations also include circus performances, hula hoop juggling workshops and a street-food event among other activities. Mingalabar is a greeting term in Myanmar which roughly means ‘may you be auspicious’.
