Germany’s Nico Rosberg won his maiden Formula 1 world title on Sunday after finishing second behind Mercedes arch-rival Lewis Hamilton in the F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Hamilton, who started from pole at the Yas Marina Circuit, needed Rosberg to finish outside of the top 3 on Sunday to stand any chance of winning the title.

So the Brit played every trick he could to save the title he owned for the past 2 years. In the closing, he attempted to back up the pack in order to put more drivers between himself and rival Rosberg but it was not enough as the drama ended up with Rosberg winning the first F1 championship title of his career by 5 points.

Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel joined Rosberg and Hamilton in the final podium of the 2016 F1 season. The Red Bull Racing cars of Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo ended their day in 4th and 5th places respectively.

With the triumph, the 31 year old Rosberg finally emulated his father Keke Rosberg, who won the F1 title back in 1982.
