Former Liverpool and England captain Steven Gerrard has announced his retirement from football, ending a 19-year playing career.

The 36-year-old made 710 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 186 goals and winning eight major trophies including the 2005 Champions League title. But he left the Reds in 2015 and joined MLS side LA Galaxy in that same year.

On the international stage, Gerrard won 114 caps for England and led his country into the World Cup in 2010 and 2014. He is now looking to begin his career as a coach.
