Barcelona have sealed their spot in the knockout stages of the tournament after beating Celtic away 2-nil in the UEFA Champions League with the help of their Argentine ace Leonel Messi.

The Catalans took the lead after 24 minutes on Wednesday when their star player Messi scored with a cool volley.

Barca then won a penalty after the break when Luis Suarez was brought down in the box. Messi stepped up and sent the spot-kick straight down the middle as Barca cruised past Brendan Rodgers' men to secure top spot in Group C.

Meanwhile, Bundesliga Giants Bayern Munich have suffered a shocking 3-2 defeat at the hands of FC Rostov in Russia.

Douglas Costa managed to put the Bavarians ahead on Wednesday when he latched on to a poor clearance from Cesar Navas and fired the ball into the roof of the net, making it 1-nil.

But, Iranian striker Sardar Azmoun leveled the scoring 1 minute before half-time, cutting inside the Bayern defense before slotting the ball past the keeper to make it 1-all.

Things then got even worse for Bayern after the restart as Rostov won a penalty in the 50th minute after Christian Noboa was brought down in the box. Dmitry Poloz stepped up and fired the ball into the back of the net to put the Russian side ahead for the first time in the match.

The visitors, however, equalized soon after. Two minutes later Juan Bernat tied the game at 2-all, scoring from close range.

But, Noboa's sharp free kick from 20 yards in the 67th minute put the hosts ahead for good, earning them their first ever Champions League victory.
