Saudi Arabia has announced a renewable 48-hour ceasefire to begin at noon Saturday in Yemen. However, it has violated the truce by conducting fresh airstrikes against the impoverished Arab country.

A journalist and political commentator believes the reason why the ceasefire in Yemen has taken effect is that Saudi Arabia is both losing the war and its own territory.

“Saudi Arabia did not only lose this war by continuously bombing civilians and gaining nothing, bombing hospitals, bombing schools, bombing mosques and heritage areas of Yemen, they also lost land,” Marwa Osman told Press TV.

“The Ansarullah resistance forces got into Saudi territory which by the way are Yemeni land which were taken and occupied by the Al Saud, so it is not literally and by history a land of Saudi Arabia but still according to the borders which is recognized by the international community, the resistance Ansarullah did also take villages inside of the land of Saudi Arabia and the kingdom of Saudi Arabia proved that they could not take that land back, they could not stop the resistance from fighting back, and most importantly they could not stop the missiles that were sent from the resistance areas,” she stated.

The commentator also argued Saudi Arabia’s economy has severely been hit by Yemen war, adding that the only way out for Riyadh is to ask for a ceasefire.

However, she said, the truce will not go through because of Saudi Arabia’s “horrific aggressiveness”.

Osman further criticized the United States and Britain for selling billions of dollars worth of weapons to Saudi Arabia when it is bombing Yemeni civilians.

According to the commentator, Saudi Arabia started the war on Yemen without even having a strategy for it and it has lost on the ground.

Saudi Arabia has been engaged in the deadly war against Yemen since March 2015 in an attempt to forcefully bring Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi back to power and undermine the Ansarullah movement.

The war has killed at least 11,400 civilians, according to a recent tally by a Yemeni monitoring group.
